Preview: Daniel Lions vs. Wren Hurricanes
Daniel has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Wren Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Daniel has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 553 points over their last 11 matchups.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Daniel had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 49-2 victory over Blue Ridge. Fans of Daniel have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Lee Turnipseed looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 44 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 209 yards and a touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Kari Bennett, who rushed for 40 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, even though Woodruff scored an imposing 32 points on Friday, Wren still came out on top. Wren enjoyed a cozy 49-32 victory over Woodruff. The victory was just what Wren needed coming off of a 51-14 loss in their prior matchup.
Wren relied on the efforts of Reese Price, who rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns, and Colten Bagwell, who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Price hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Parker Bell also helped out with an impressive 82 receiving yards.
Daniel's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 40.31 points. As for Wren, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.
Daniel took their victory against Wren when the teams last played back in October of 2021 by a conclusive 35-9. Will Daniel repeat their success, or does Wren have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
