Baseball Game Preview: Desert Christian Eagles vs. Tombstone Yellow Jackets

The Desert Christian Eagles will challenge the Tombstone Yellow Jackets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Christian has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Desert Christian is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Benson just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 12-4 to the Bobcats.

Meanwhile, Tombstone won against San Miguel on Friday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets blew past Phoenix Christian 15-5. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by eight runs or more this season.

DJ Elias made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Erik Koehler was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Miguel Rincon, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

The win (which was Tombstone's third in a row) raised their record to 14-5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
