Football Game Preview: Dalhart Wolves vs. River Road Wildcats

Dalhart is 8-2 against River Road since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolves will head out to face off against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dalhart has five straight victories, River Road has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, everything came up roses for Dalhart against Denver City as the squad secured a 54-22 win. Considering the Wolves have won five matchups by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hunter Trusler produced another solid effort rushing for 86 yards and a pair of TDs, while also throwing for 248 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024. Kaleb Speer was another key player, gaining 125 total yards and a touchdown.

Dalhart didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Denver City to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Wolves have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.6 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.6 in their last three games.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when River Road duked it out with Guymon on Friday. The Wildcats took a 29-14 bruising from the Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 1088th in Texas, while the Tigers are ranked 180th in Oklahoma).

Dalhart's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for River Road, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Dalhart strolled past River Road in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 35-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
