Softball Recap: West Mesa's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

While West Mesa put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Highland. The West Mesa Mustangs blew past the Highland Hornets 20-0. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Trinity 'Toots' Bazan made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Bazan was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Mya Baca was a standout: she fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.2 RBI per game. Another player making a difference was Christina ' Ocho' Perez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

West Mesa lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in February of 2024.

West Mesa's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coincidentally, West Mesa and Highland will both be playing Del Norte the next time they take the field. Highland will host Del Norte at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while West Mesa will host them at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
