Softball Recap: Holy Cross Victorious

Holy Cross won against Honesdale last Wednesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Crusaders walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Old Forge Blue Devils. This was payback for the Crusaders, who suffered a 10-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

AVA SCHMIDT spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Holy Cross let MIA GALELLA and LILA KOLCHARNO run wild. GALELLA went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while KOLCHARNO went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. CLAIRE HELRING was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Holy Cross and bumps their season record up to 9-1. As for Old Forge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Holy Cross will square off against rival Dunmore at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Old Forge is set to face off against their familiar foe Riverside at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
