Preview: Lafayette Lions vs. New Iberia Yellowjackets
Lafayette and New Iberia are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Lafayette Lions will be playing at home against the New Iberia Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lafayette comes in on five and New Iberia on nine.
Last Friday, Lafayette didn't have too much trouble with Barbe at home as they won 45-29. Given Lafayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Barbe is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Iberia posted their closest victory yet this season on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 victory over Catholic - N.I.
New Iberia got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wayne Randall-bashay out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Randall-bashay has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Otis Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
Lafayette has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season. As for New Iberia, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
Lafayette might still be hurting after the 58-38 defeat they got from New Iberia when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Will Lafayette have more luck at home instead of on the road?
