Softball Game Preview: Barren County Trojans vs. Nelson County Cardinals

The Barren County Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Nelson County Cardinals at 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Barren County's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Franklin-Simpson. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Shea Bogue's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Barren County let Kaitie Elmore and Lizzie Smith run wild. Elmore went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Smith went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. Norah Shirley also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nelson County). They put the hurt on Thomas Nelson with a sharp 22-0 win on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.

The victory got Barren County back to even at 4-4. As for Nelson County, their win bumped their record up to 8-1-1.

Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Barren County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Nelson County struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Barren County took their victory against Nelson County in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 23-0 score. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
