Baseball Game Preview: Atlantic Collegiate Academy Armada vs. Kingstree Blazers

The Atlantic Collegiate Academy Armada will face off against the Kingstree Blazers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Atlantic Collegiate Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Kingstree's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Atlantic Collegiate Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs last Wednesday, they were much more limited against South Caldwell on Wednesday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans.

Atlantic Collegiate Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Coleman Strickland, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kingstree). They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over Mullins last Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Blazers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Meltrin Segars made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makhi Shaw, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase McCea, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Atlantic Collegiate Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Kingstree, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 3-9.
