Basketball Recap: Britton Deerfield Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 37-37 at halftime, Britton Deerfield was not quite Whiteford's equal in the second half on Thursday. They took a 75-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Whiteford Bobcats. Even though they lost, the Patriots' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.1 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Defeat or not, Britton Deerfield got some senior leadership from Ryan Good and Owen Plum. Good posted 22 points and four steals, while Plum went 8-for-18 en route to 22 points. Good's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Keegan Bush, who had nine assists and seven steals.

Britton Deerfield has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points over those games. As for Whiteford, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Britton Deerfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 95-61 victory against Addison on the 17th. As for Whiteford, they will head out on the road to challenge Dundee at 7:00 p.m. on February 20th.
