Baseball Recap: Sylmar Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Sylmar won the last time they faced Kennedy and things went their way on Thursday too. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Cougars 6-4. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Rickee Luevano was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Timothy Sepulveda, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Mike Andrade was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Sylmar pushed their record up to 21-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.25 runs across that stretch. As for Kennedy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-19.

Looking ahead, Sylmar will challenge Cleveland at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Kennedy, they will take on Garfield at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
