Preview: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Conestoga Cougars

Fort Calhoun is 8-2 against Conestoga since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Fort Calhoun Pioneers' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Conestoga Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Fort Calhoun was able to grind out a solid win over Arlington, taking the game 55-42. Given Fort Calhoun's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Arlington is ranked 125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Conestoga entered their tilt with Syracuse with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Conestoga came out on top against Syracuse by a score of 62-51 on Tuesday. 62 seems to be a good number for Conestoga as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Noah Simones continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Zachariah Smith, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.

Fort Calhoun is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Conestoga, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

Fort Calhoun couldn't quite finish off Conestoga in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 61-58. Can Fort Calhoun avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
