Basketball Recap: Smyrna Comes Up Short

Smyrna lost against Cookeville back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Smyrna Bulldogs were beaten by the Cookeville Cavaliers 58-19. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 24th).

Cookeville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Allie Gillies out in front who went 6-for-9 on her way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Macy Hudson, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Smyrna's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Cookeville, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Coming up, Smyrna will take on LaVergne at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Smyrna is facing LaVergne at the right time seeing as LaVergne is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cookeville, they will face off against Stewarts Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cookeville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
