Recap: Springport Spartans vs. Colon Magi
The Springport Spartans entered their tilt with the Colon Magi with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Springport walked away with a 50-40 win over Colon on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given Springport's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while Colon is ranked 47th).
Springport had a senior duo take command as Rylee Siefert dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds and Maddux Locke scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Locke also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloey Speer, who scored 12 points.
Springport's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Colon, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springport will take on Bath at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Bath's defense has only allowed 27.5 points per game this season, so Springport's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Colon, they will head out on the road to face off against Centreville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
