Creighton Prep is 8-2 against Millard North since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Bluejay will square off against the Mustangs at 12:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Creighton Prep is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Papillion-LaVista, who was ranked 17th at the time (Creighton Prep was ranked eighth). The Bluejay blew past the Monarchs 12-2 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Bluejay sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Creighton Prep got a great performance from Nolan Going as he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Jack Cosgrove and Cal Anthony did most of the damage at the plate: Cosgrove went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and five RBI, while Anthony went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Cosgrove has posted since back in March. Garrett Andersen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Creighton Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Millard North got the win against Bellevue West on Friday by a conclusive 10-1. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won four in a row.
Collin Driffill tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Caden Shafer was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Marty Johnson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Creighton Prep's record is now 14-7. As for Millard North, their record now sits at 15-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Creighton Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Millard North struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Creighton Prep couldn't quite finish off Millard North in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 and fell 6-4. Can the Bluejay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
