Baseball Game Preview: St. Pius X Lancers vs. Veritas Christian Academy Eagles

The St. Pius X Lancers will challenge the Veritas Christian Academy Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

St. Pius X took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They never let Bishop DuBourg get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Brennan Ervin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jayden McGrath was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Gunnar Hosay was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

St. Pius X kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Veritas Christian Academy made easy work of Crystal City on Tuesday and carried off a 12-2 victory. Considering the Eagles have won five games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

St. Pius X's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8. As for Veritas Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
