Softball Game Preview: Milby Buffs vs. Galena Park Yellowjackets

Milby hasn't had much luck against Galena Park recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Buffs will welcome the Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Milby got the win against Westbury by a conclusive 18-1. The win continues a trend for the Buffs in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.

Gabby Villarreal made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Villarreal was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Julianna Calvillo was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mariah Burnom, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Milby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, while Galena Park put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Spring Woods. The Yellowjackets blew past the Tigers 15-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yellowjackets.

Galena Park's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Milby, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
