Baseball Game Preview: Burges Mustangs vs. Canutillo Eagles

The Burges Mustangs will head out to face off against the Canutillo Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Burges has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Canutillo will arrive with three straight wins.

Things were looking good for Burges after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Jefferson by a score of 2-1. Mustangs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Silver Foxes since on Friday.

Victor Aguirre spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Burges saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ivan Lopez, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Adan Zavala also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Canutillo was the clear victor by an 8-1 margin over Andress.

Aaron Alvarado was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ian Melendez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Canutillo's victory bumped their record up to 10-4-2. As for Burges, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9-2.
