The Malvern Hornets will head out to challenge the Newcomerstown Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Malvern is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Last Tuesday, Malvern didn't have quite enough to beat Buckeye Trail and fell 3-2.

Malvern took Buckeye Trail into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking nine-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 15-6.

Despite the defeat, Malvern saw an underclassman step up: Avery Sprague had 22 digs. Sprague is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had six or more in the last eight games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Zoe Sikorsky, who had 17 digs.

Meanwhile, Newcomerstown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-0 to Conotton Valley, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

The final score came out to 25-16, 25-11, 25-18.

Malvern's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Newcomerstown, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Everything went Malvern's way against Newcomerstown in their previous meeting back in September of 2023 as Malvern made off with a 3-0 victory.
