The Glades Day Gators are taking a road trip to challenge the Marathon Dolphins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Glades Day played in-conference for the first time on Friday and got just the result they were looking for. They came out on top against Moore Haven by a score of 9-4.
Taranza McKelvin Jr was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Isaac Perez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
McKelvin Jr wasn't the only one making solid contact: Glades Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Marathon earned an 8-5 win over Ransom Everglades on Friday.
Marathon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Leal, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-2. Leal also scored two runs, which is notable because the Dolphins are undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Gabriel Leal was another, going 2-for-3 with one double.
Marathon pushed their record up to 16-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Glades Day, their record is now 9-10.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Glades Day has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Marathon struggles in that department as they've averaged .468. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Glades Day suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Marathon in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
