Basketball Recap: Hamilton Takes a Loss

If Hamilton was feeling good fresh off their 97-38 takedown of West Adams on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Yankees were beaten by the Rolling Hills Prep Huskies 83-49 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Yankees can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Huskies are ranked 21st).

Hamilton's loss came despite strong showings from Michael Gooden and Mychal Lynch. Gooden dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards, while Lynch posted eight points and nine assists. Gooden is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Brian Hill, who put up six points.

Rolling Hills Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gio Tubbs, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and three steals. Tubbs continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Nick Welch Jr was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and ten boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Hamilton fell to 5-1. As for Rolling Hills Prep, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Hamilton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 82-65 win against Wilson on the 10th. As for Rolling Hills Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-23 victory against California Academy of Math & Science on the 10th.
