Monroe and Stanwood are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Bearcats will welcome the Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
While Monroe's win against Everett wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bearcats skirted past the Seagulls 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bearcats have posted since April 22, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Scarlett Nagy, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hadley Oylear, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Monroe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Stanwood hadn't done well against Marysville Getchell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Spartans walked away with an 11-6 win over Marysville Getchell.
Megan Stulc and Addison Anderson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Stulc struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Anderson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Stulc has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Stulc got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two RBI, while Anderson fired off two home runs, four runs, and one stolen base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Anderson a new career-high.
In other batting news, Rubi Lopez was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Ryan, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Monroe's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Stanwood, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monroe hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Stanwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Monroe suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Stanwood when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Bearcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
