Softball Recap: Evanston Takes a Loss

Evanston had lost seven straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-16 to make it eight. They lost 9-0 to the Highland Park Giants. The Wildkits were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Giants earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

As for Highland Park, their win bumped their record up to 11-7. The result was nothing new for the Giants, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Highland Park's part, not much got past Lily Freedman, who gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks to keep Evanston off the board. Freedman has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Vera Hanson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Dani Letwat, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Evanston has already played their next match, a 9-1 loss against Glenbrook South on the 15th. As for Highland Park, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-4 victory against Maine South on the 15th.
