Basketball Recap: Alec Wilkins leads a balanced attack to beat Omaha Central

Basketball Recap: Gretna Dragons vs. Omaha Central Eagles

On Friday, the Gretna Dragons faced the Omaha Central Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Gretna managed a 64-59 victory over the Eagles. The victory was nothing new for Gretna as they're now sitting on five straight.

Gretna got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alec Wilkins out in front who scored 15 points. Landon Pokorski was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alijah Wayne, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wayne has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Daleron Thomas, who scored 16 points along with four steals.

Even though they lost, Omaha Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gretna only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

Gretna's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. As for Omaha Central, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gretna will take on the Bears at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bryan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday. As for Omaha Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Fremont is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season.
