Baseball Recap: Merrillville Takes a Loss

Merrillville and Portage squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Merrillville had to settle for second. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Merrillville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Goodwin, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Merrillville's loss dropped their record down to 5-23. As for Portage, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-12-2 record this season.

Merrillville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Portage, they will face off against Chesterton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
