Basketball Recap: Southport Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, Southport's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Franklin Central Flashes by a score of 57-55. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 54-50 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Southport still got an impressive performance from Samuel Lloyd, who posted eight points in addition to five boards and three steals. That's the most steals Lloyd has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Jack Turner, who put up nine points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Southport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Southport's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3. As for Franklin Central, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Franklin Central beat Southport by a score of 57-55 later that day.
