Basketball Recap: Greeley West Spartans vs. Windsor Wizards

The Greeley West Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their ninth straight loss. They were outmatched by Windsor on the road and fell 92-44. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Greeley West in their matchups with the Wizards: they've now lost six in a row.

Greeley West's loss came despite strong showings from Zaiden Montelongo and Andrew Zepeda. Montelongo scored 11 points along with five rebounds, while Zepeda scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Montelongo has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dominic Florez, who scored three points.

Windsor was led to victory by Johnnie Reed and Madden Smiley. Reed dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Smiley scored 20 points along with two steals. Smiley hasn't dropped below 19 points for three straight games. John Backhaus was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.

Greeley West dropped their record down to 2-17 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Windsor, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.

Greeley West will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greeley Central and the Spartans are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Windsor, they will head out on the road to square off against the Raptors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Silver Creek is ranked 19th, while the Wizards are ranked 16th).
