Baseball Game Preview: Wagner Thunderbirds vs. Smithson Valley Rangers

Wagner is 1-9 against Smithson Valley since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds will look to defend their home field against the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wagner is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Veterans Memorial by a score of 7-3 on Friday. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Adrian Flores, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaysen Mattison, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley's hitters rose to the challenge against a Bulldogs pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.35 runs allowed on Saturday. The Rangers put the hurt on Sweeny with a sharp 10-4 win. Considering the Rangers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Smithson Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Wagner, their victory bumped their record up to 5-15.
