Softball Recap: Westover Wolverines vs. Overhills Jaguars
Sadly, Westover is still looking for their first win of the season after eight matches. They fell victim to a tough 18-3 defeat at the hands of the Overhills Jaguars on Tuesday. Westover was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Overhills apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Westover saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Even though they lost, Westover hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.
On Overhills' side, Laila Daniel and Alyssa Daniel did most of the damage at the plate: Daniel scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Daniel scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Westover's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Overhills, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Westover will be playing in front of their home fans against E.E. Smith at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Overhills, they will head out on the road to square off against Western Harnett at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
