Football Recap: Riverview Academy of Math and Science Comes Up Short

Monday just wasn't the day for Riverview Academy of Math and Science's offense. They took a blow against the Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans on Monday, falling 34-0. The Barracudas just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Degreenia, who rushed for 58 yards and one score, and also threw for 75 yards and three touchdowns. Degreenia also deserves a shoutout for her performance on D, making two total tackles and defending three passes. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Rodriguez, who picked up 40 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Riverview Academy of Math and Science's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverview Academy of Math and Science will venture away from home to square off against Bell Creek Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' defense has only allowed 9.4 points per game this season, so the Barracudas' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, they will head out to face off against Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
