Softball Recap: Red Wing Wingers vs. Northfield Raiders

Red Wing fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Northfield on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Northfield Raiders by a score of 9-8. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Red Wing of the 7-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture last Monday.

Brianna Tix spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up 20 Ks. Those 20 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

Mostad was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run, four stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, Lindsey Erickson was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with a home run and two RBI. Rita Langford was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Red Wing now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Northfield, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.
