Baseball Recap: Weslaco East Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Weslaco East nor Porter made it on the board until the ninth inning. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Cowboys 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 5, 2024.

James Abrego made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple.

In other pitching news, Nate Balderas looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aiden Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Brian Perez, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Weslaco East is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Porter, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-13.
