Baseball Recap: Simpson Academy Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Oak Forest Academy, Simpson Academy was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They skirted past the Florence Eagles 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since February 17th.

Kolt Walker tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Barrett McKenney, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Simpson Academy is undefeated when McKenney posts three or more RBI, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Simpson Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Simpson Academy now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Florence, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-2 record.

Simpson Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against Florence: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
