Soccer Game Preview: Alleghany vs. East Wilkes

The Alleghany Trojans will face off against the East Wilkes Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Alleghany's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for five straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

On Thursday, Alleghany didn't have quite enough to beat South Stokes and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, East Wilkes hadn't done well against Mount Airy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cardinals' defense stepped up to hand the Granite Bears a 3-0 shutout. Considering East Wilkes have won six games by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Alleghany's loss dropped their record down to 3-11-2. As for East Wilkes, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11.

Alleghany beat East Wilkes by a goal in their previous meeting back in March, winning 2-1. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
