Softball Game Preview: Patton Panthers vs. East Burke Cavaliers

The Patton Panthers will face off against the East Burke Cavaliers at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Patton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Patton turned things around against Polk County on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 12-1 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kara Redwine was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ady Moorefield was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, East Burke was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 10-0 to West Caldwell.

Patton's victory bumped their record up to 5-13. As for East Burke, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-17.

East Burke's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Patton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for East Burke, though, as they've been averaging 12.1 hits. Given Patton's sizable advantage in that area, the Cavaliers will need to find a way to close that gap.

Patton took their win against East Burke in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 16-6 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
