Recap: Bellmont Braves vs. New Haven Bulldogs

Even though the Bellmont Braves have not done well against the New Haven Bulldogs recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Bellmont enjoyed a cozy 62-47 win over New Haven. Given Bellmont's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while New Haven is ranked 310th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why New Haven lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeremiah Cottrell. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points. The matchup was Cottrell's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Marquaylon Johnson, who scored seven points.

The win (which was Bellmont's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for New Haven, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bellmont will take on Adams Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for New Haven, they will head out on the road to face off against Kokomo at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. One thing working in Kokomo's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
