Basketball Recap: Army-Navy Takes a Loss

Army-Navy saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell 62-50 to the Montgomery Aztecs. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Army-Navy lost, don't look at Ivan Marchenko. Despite the final result, he posted 27 points. Marchenko has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Yanler Ramos, who put up nine points.

Montgomery's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyden Eleazar led the charge by dropping a double-double with ten points and ten assists. Eleazar is becoming a predictor of the Aztecs' success: when he posts at least eight assists the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Xavier Guerrero was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.

Army-Navy's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Montgomery, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Army-Navy has already played their next contest, a 48-34 win against Preuss UCSD on the 12th. As for Montgomery, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 67-46 victory against Canyon Crest Academy on the 12th.
