Softball Recap: Unity Eagles vs. Spring Valley Cardinals

Unity extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They fell 9-5 to the Spring Valley Cardinals. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Megan Peterson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Evelyn Fugate was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Spring Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.

On Spring Valley's side, Megan Harvey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Danika Schmitt was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kate Cipriano, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Unity will head out to take on Shell Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Spring Valley, they will venture away from home to square off against Colfax at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
