Basketball Recap: Denver East Falls Short Against Ranked Pine Creek

On Tuesday, Denver East faced Pine Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Denver East Angels took a 62-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pine Creek Eagles. The Angels just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Despite the loss, Denver East still got an impressive performance from Mairead Hearty, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most points Hearty has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Evelina Otto, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Denver East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 25 consecutive games dating back to last season.

It was another big night for Brooklyn Stewart, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds for Pine Creek. Stewart is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Keelin Sills was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Denver East's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Pine Creek, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Denver East has already played their next match, a 71-46 victory against Chaparral on the 9th. As for Pine Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-48 loss against Air Academy on the 10th.
