Basketball Recap: St. Benedict at Auburndale Comes Up Short

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Saturday. St. Benedict at Auburndale lost to Brentwood Academy on the road by a 69-51 margin. While losing is never fun, St. Benedict at Auburndale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while Brentwood Academy is ranked ninth).

When it comes to explaining why St. Benedict at Auburndale lost, don't look at Keontae Scales. Despite the final result, he shot 88% from the field on his way to 16 points. Scales continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Ryan Eddings was another key player, putting up five points.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Benedict at Auburndale and nudges their season record down to 1-10. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points over those games. As for Brentwood Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

St. Benedict at Auburndale will take on Rossville Christian Academy in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Wolves have now posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Brentwood Academy, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lipscomb Academy at 4:30 p.m. on January 3, 2026.
