Basketball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Takes Down Broughton in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Cardinal Gibbons had no trouble coming through when it counted. They snuck past the Broughton Capitals with an 81-77 win on Tuesday. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 58-44 win last Tuesday.

Cardinal Gibbons' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cash McSweeney, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 21 boards. McSweeney's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Damon Phillips, who posted 21 points and five assists.

Cardinal Gibbons was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 16-6 when they've passed the ball that well.

Cardinal Gibbons is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. This is the second loss in a row for Broughton and nudges their season record down to 15-11.
