Basketball Recap: Cobden's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Cobden won the last time they faced Joppa-Maple Grove, and Natalie Franklin did her part to make sure it happened again. The Cobden Appleknockers managed a 45-41 win over the Joppa-Maple Grove Rangers on Friday thanks in part to Franklin, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cobden's points.

Another player making a difference was Shawna Burgess, who posted 14 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Despite the loss, Joppa-Maple Grove saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kali Short went 5 for 10 en route to 13 points and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Lang, who earned five points.

The victory made it two in a row for Cobden and bumps their season record up to 5-11. As for Joppa-Maple Grove, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Cobden didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Meridian on the 27th. Joppa-Maple Grove has also already played their next game, a 51-18 loss against Pope County on the 27th.
