Basketball Recap: Daniel Mason Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Western Plains

Wheatland-Grinnell posted their closest win since December 12, 2023 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Western Plains Bobcats, sneaking past 52-50. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Thunderhawks also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheatland-Grinnell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Daniel Mason, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 10 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Those five steals gave Mason a new career-high. Riley Tuttle was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Wheatland-Grinnell and bumps their season record up to 5-6. As for Western Plains, they moved to 6-2-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheatland-Grinnell will host Oakley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wheatland-Grinnell has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Western Plains has already played their next matchup (against Northern Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
