Baseball Game Preview: Waukesha West Wolverines vs. Waukesha South Blackshirts

The Waukesha West Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Waukesha South Blackshirts at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Waukesha West has three straight victories, Waukesha South has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Waukesha West needed a bit of extra time to put away Catholic Memorial. They had just enough and edged out the Crusaders 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolverines have posted since April 12th.

Tanner Hellman tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Waukesha West's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bradyn Kundinger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. Tanner Kalinowski also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Waukesha South and Waukesha North faced off in a cross-town battle on Monday. The Blackshirts fell 7-3 to the Northstars.

Waukesha West pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Waukesha South, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Waukesha West was able to grind out a solid win over Waukesha South in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
