Nixon piles up the points against Cigarroa

Recap: Nixon Mustangs vs. Cigarroa Toros

The Nixon Mustangs came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Cigarroa, posting a 82-43 win at home. Given Nixon's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Toros are ranked 1109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Jose Escobar, who scored 25 points along with five steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed five or more in the last three games he's played. Mason Vela was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.

Nixon has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season. As for Cigarroa, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-20.

Nixon will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Mission Veterans Memorial: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Mustangs have snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. Cigarroa will take on the Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
