Basketball Recap: Coral Gables Comes Up Short

Coral Gables was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. 2025 welcomed they with a 74-51 loss courtesy of the Westminster Christian Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Warriors are ranked 89th).

Westminster Christian had a senior duo take command as Cooper Whitby went 7 for 11 on his way to 19 points in addition to six assists and six boards and Dwight Whipple almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whipple has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Hendrikse, who made all 5 shots he took to post 12 points.

Coral Gables' loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Westminster Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.

Coral Gables will challenge North Miami Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westminster Christian, they will square off against Westwood Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
