Baseball Recap: Rio Rico Has No Trouble Against Sabino

Rio Rico got themselves on the board against Sabino on Monday, but Sabino never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 16-0 margin over the Sabino Sabercats. That's more bragging rights for the Hawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Pedro Montano looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Rio Rico got a massive performance out of Rafael Echeverria, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Echeverria also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Pedro Tolano, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Rio Rico hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sabino struck out seven times.

The victory made it two in a row for Rio Rico and bumps their season record up to 2-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 21.5 runs. As for Sabino, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Rio Rico will be taking part in a tournament against Virgin Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Virgin Valley will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Rio Rico surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sabino, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Douglas at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sabino has given up an average of 15.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
