Basketball Recap: Platteview Comes Up Short

Platteview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mount Michael Benedictine Knights. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2025.

Despite the loss, Platteview still got an impressive performance from Owen Trofholz, who shot 50% from the field en route to 23 points and eight boards. Trofholz has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sully Vanosdall, who posted 11 points and seven boards.

Jack Burke was nothing short of spectacular for Mount Michael Benedictine: he went 5-for-11 to rack up 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Burke continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Miles Wewel also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Platteview's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2.

Platteview has already played their next matchup, a 62-29 defeat against Ashland-Greenwood on the 13th. As for Mount Michael Benedictine, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-57 victory against Waverly on the 13th.
