Football Game Preview: Jesuit Crusaders vs. Mountainside Mavericks

Jesuit is 6-1 against Mountainside since August of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Crusaders will square off against the Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Jesuit is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 63-27 victory over Beaverton. The win was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on three straight.

Luke Ortner was his usual excellent self, rushing for 396 yards and six TDs while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 14 rushing touchdowns on the season. Jack Wilson was another key player, throwing for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Jesuit was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 431 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 203 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Mountainside, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They blew past Southridge 41-7 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mavericks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Skyhawks are ranked 120th).

Mountainside now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Jesuit, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Jesuit suffered a grim 58-35 defeat to Mountainside in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Mavericks' Jordan Hicks, who rushed for 170 yards and two scores on only 14 carries.
