Preview: Alamo Heights Mules vs. Edison Golden Bears

The Alamo Heights Mules will head out on the road to square off against the Edison Golden Bears at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alamo Heights has 17 straight wins, Edison has 11 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Alamo Heights beat Sam Houston 60-49. Given Alamo Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Sam Houston is ranked 932nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alamo Heights' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hayes Waddy led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Waddy hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. John Budenholzer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists.

Meanwhile, Edison lost to Jefferson at home by a decisive 67-53 margin last Tuesday.

Alamo Heights pushed their record up to 21-3 with that victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Edison, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.

Alamo Heights took their win against Edison in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 51-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Alamo Heights since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
