Basketball Game Preview: Northwest Webster Cougars vs. Greene County Rams

The Northwest Webster Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Greene County Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Northwest Webster took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire with points to spare, taking the game 69-55. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Titans are ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greene County). They walked away with a 65-55 victory over South Hamilton on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Rams as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Greene County's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for Northwest Webster, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Northwest Webster strolled past Greene County in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 60-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northwest Webster since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
